Peeps Invade Craft Warehouse

My friend, Amanda at lovejoypaper.com is having her last monthly challenge this month.  She posted an awesome sketch and I wanted to make sure to get in on it.  Of course I waited until the last moment...  Actually, I have a bunch of last minute scrapping to get done today!  Sigh, will I learn my lesson for next month?  We shall see.  Anyway, I wanted to do something extra fun and chose to scrap about the time the CK Peeps, Amanda included, invaded Craft Warehouse in Wenatchee, WA.  I don't think the clerks knew what hit them!  And invade, we did.  We laughed, played, shopped and even broke a shelving unit.  I think they were probably glad we moved on, but they didn't ban Amanda!

Here we all are

Do We Have To Keep Him??

I loved the colors at CSI this week!  As soon as I saw them, I remembered a piece of Crate Paper I picked up at CKC in Portland that had food labels in those very colors and knew they would be perfect!  They also fit one of the evidence requirements to use papers with vintage looks.  I also pulled out some Graphic 45 that I picked up for this too.  My other evidence includes: butterflies, twine, and painting of the background.  I also, inadvertently, painted my phone.... It now sports blue spatters, lol.

For my testimony I journaled about my feelings of getting a brother.  The story goes that as soon as I saw him, I said, "That's not a sister, take it back!"  I look like my feelings haven't changed much in this photo ;)

Grandma Sylvia

The Challenge:
Use more than one tag on a layout.

And another layout for my nephew's album!  I had this cute tag punch that I haven't been able to use much and I thought this challenge would be a great time to get it out!  I used my mini alpha from Cosmo Cricut and Kaiser Craft for the sentiment on the three little tags.  I also used a piece of pre-decorated patterned paper as my background.  I just cut some openings to insert the photos into to give it that dimensional look.

You Have My Heart

I have to say that I struggled with the colors this week at CSI.  My first thought was Christmas and I just didn't want to do a Christmas layout.  One of the journaling prompts was to write about motherhood.  I thought that would be the perfect thing to do.  I printed off one of my favorite photos of my kids and set off to find paper.   All during the week I would find something in the color scheme and set it aside as a possible element.  Oh, this cardstock is the dark red.  Here are some rub-ons in the light rose.  When I sat down to pull it all together, I found the green piece that is the background and just loved it!  It all fell into place after that.

For my evidence I used clouds, metal, and fabric.  The journaling is, as I said, about motherhood and reads: You two are the best kids!  I love being your mom.  You bring great joy into my life and an abundance of laughter.

Sister Chicks

The Challenge:
Stitch through the title or other defining element

I chose to scrap about the retreat that our women's group does in the Fall.  These people are my rock and I felt stitching us together really speaks of how we are.  These are my sisters and I am bound to them.  I not only wanted to convey that we are stitched together, but that it includes all of us together, hence the circle of stitching too.

I was excited to be able to use this kit made by Fancy Pants that I picked up in Portland last weekend.  I can't get it here :(  It is so fun and sunny and includes some great birds.  Perfect for a chick layout!  The colors are just happy too and theses gals make me happy.  The sketch by Page Maps was perfect for my photos too.

Alley Springs Mill

My friend Ashley is doing a sketch challenge at Club CK and I wanted to be sure to play along!  I love Ashley's sketches and I wouldn't want to miss playing with this one.  You can find more of her sketches here.

I chose these photos to a trip to Alley Springs Mill that I went to while on a trip out to my mom's.  It was a really cool place!  The mill is open to walk through and many of the original machines are there along with a collection of other, relevant machinery.  We had fun taking cool photos of these old pieces.  Because of this old, worn feel, I wanted my layout to give the same vibe.  I found these cool papers in that rich, dark color and I distressed the banner to give it that worn feel to match the worn machines and used the old time twine to give that extra little something.

This really was a special place.  The water was truly that color, a brilliant turquoise!  I loved how many old mills there are peppered throughout the state of Missouri.

Goofballs

The Challenge:
Scrap your everyday life or take inspiration form your everyday tasks

My everyday life is full of these goofballs!  They are crazy, funny, loud, and I love them so much.  Life would be very boring without my family.  There is a lot of laughter in our home and I wanted to have a layout that celebrated that!  I tried to use lighthearted, whimsical embellishments and I got to use some of my favorite stamps!  I stamped them in black and then colored them in with colored pencils and finished them off with glitter glue.  I also chose the ledger patterned paper and the wood grain paper for the ordinary, everyday feel they gave.  I added the little wavy border sticker for the bit of crazy that is my family.

I did another one for my nephew's album too.  Just a couple of photos, hanging out with Daddy.  I got to use some of my fun, boy Authentique paper and a Sketches in Thyme sketch.  I like the blanket stitch paired with the denim paper.

Love Is

This week's challenge at CSI was awesome, as usual.  The colors this week were so pretty.  I love trying to incorporated bits and pieces of evidence into my layout.  Journaling has always been sort of a struggle for me and I've only recently really put thought into it.  I am liking the journal prompts that come with these challenges. I am not sure what I would have said about this photo, but the prompt made me think of love from another perspective.  I went with the definition prompt and answered my title.

Hats

Workout #63 at Scrapfit is a sketch challenge.  Diana provided a fantastic sketch!   I do miss her sketches at Sketchy Thursdays and I was delighted to see that she did the sketch for this workout!

I pulled these cute photos of my nephew wearing a couple of adorable hats.  He is even stylin' with his great grandma!

#1 Son

The Challenge:
Include numbers in your layout

This week's Frosted Design Fabulous Friday challenge was to use numbers on your project.  Numbers seem to be quite popular right now.  For this challenge, I went to the photos I had of my nephew.  He is the first born child and the first son, so I came up with #1 Son for my title.  I found this cute number paper in my stash from Echo Park and I had a Cricut cartridge that had the awesome number strip file in it!  I used an old Sketchy Thursdays sketch as inspiration for the layout.

My Artsy Soul Sister

The Challenge:
Create a layout about a special friendship.

I chose my friend Renae.  She gets me.  She gets why I get excited about something artistic and I understand her.  I asked her to send me some photos of her art that I turned into patterned paper.  I also used a photo of a flower that she drew to make the flower embellishments.  I just printed them out in different sizes and stacked them together to make a dimensional flower.  She loves painting and drawing.  I love scrapping.  We both love taking photos and sewing.  I tried to work all these things into this layout.

I miss you Nae and wish you were closer!

Hitchhiker

I just loved the color in this week's case at CSI!  They are so happy and sunny for a little pick me up in the middle of winter!  I wanted to make sure that I used them in the brightest way too.

For my evidence I used: use a solid background, use of wet elements in the paint splatters and dimensional glaze, transparent element in the transparency over the photo, and something that sparkles in my glitter glue frame around the photo.

For my testimony I wrote about the star of the photo which is the dragonfly!
