Family Beach Day

It's Thoughtful Thursday at thinking*through*design and today we are thinking about adding dimension to our projects.  Come on over and see our thoughts on this very important design technique and how your can add it to your next work of he{art}

I pulled some photos, for my nephew's first year album, of meeting family at the beach on a trip to Cali.  I saw these papers online and had to get them for these very photos!  I love the distressed look of them and there were really cute embellishments to use for beach photos.  I used Ashley Horton's September sketch too.  Of course, I turned it into a double pager ;)

Elephant Salad

Welcome to Thoughtful Thursday!  Today we are learning all about using mixed fonts in our titles to help tell our story.  Come visit us at Thinking*Through*Designs to see our thoughts on using fonts and type to help convey your story on your next work of he{art}

My thoughts on using mixed fonts: Laura’s thought: I’ve long been a fan of mixing fonts in my title!  First, I think it’s just fun!  Secondly, it does help to tell the story at times.  I picked these grey letters for my word “elephant” because they are the color of elephants and they had a great texture that reminded me of the wrinkly skin.  I chose green for the word “salad” because, well, salad is green.  I often use larger and smaller letters to signify the importance of a word in my title.

Wild Water

Welcome to Thoughtful Thursday!  Be sure to check out this installment of our thoughts at Thinking*Through*Designs.  This thought is all about adding a bit of fun with splattering!  You can splatter paint or ink and it just adds a level of interest as well as playfulness.

I chose these photos of Kayla's summer camp from last year and some of the water fun they had.  Adding blue splats to my papers, before adding photos, adds to the story of water drops flying.  You can use splattering like this, to reinforce the story, or to just add some texture and interest in an otherwise empty space.  I like the look and have been adding splattering to a lot of my projects.

Welcome to another Thoughtful Thursday at Thinking*Through*Design!

Today's thought is all about fussy cutting.  Fussy cutting is just cutting out a design on the paper or around a stamped image.  It's a great way to custom make embellishments for your layout without having to spend a lot of extra money.

This is the layout I did for this thought; be sure to visit TTD to see more in depth ideas about fussy cutting as well as two photo tutorials. I did some stamping of really cute clouds and an adorable sleeping owl that really reinforced the theme of my layout.  I also added the pretty little flower in the bottom corner.  Another thing I did was to cut out along the printed designs on the page so I could tuck my photo matte underneath, giving it another layer of dimension.

Today is the premier thought for the new teaching blog Thinking*Through*Design.

Today we are learning about analogous colors.  Analogous colors are ones that live next to each other on the color wheel.  They go well together, because they are closely related.  Come on over to read the editors' thoughts on the subject and see how the TGs thought this through.  Be sure to think through your own project using analogous colors and link it up!

Some Big News!

Today is the launch of a new kind of scrap site.  Thinking*Through*Designs is all about learning, sharing, growing and being encouraged.  This site has been months in the making and I am so excited to finally get going.   I am joining Erika, Steffanie, Joni, and a team of creators to bring lessons, encourage growth, and just support the scrapper's journey.  We will be hosting lessons, called thoughts, every other Thursday, known as Thoughtful Thursdays, and give you the chance to create with us.

More than anything, we want to provide a supportive place for scrappers to come learn and begin to go deeper into their process, to think out their designs.  It is a journey that I am super excited about and hope you will join us!
