Birds of a Feather

My first thought when I saw this week's CSI case was, "Whoa, that's a lot of pink...", then I remembered these fun photos taken at my daughter's birthday party. We both have May birthdays and LOVE our desserts to be strawberry related. You can keep your birthday cake, bring on the strawberry pie, the strawberry shortcake, the cheesecake topped with strawberries!

We really are birds of a feather, which I thought was perfect for using the cut file, of the same name,  from The Cut Shoppe. I've always loved the cute, whimsical feathers and wanted a chance to use them. I also used the title and the fun little birds. But first, I spread some texture paste through a triangle stencil and watercolored over the top, in a random fashion as a base for the rest. I added some flowers from Funky Florals too. I really like them too. The cluster of smaller feathers are made with the feather stamp, from Stampin' Up. I stamped them onto vellum and heat embossed with white. I love the sheer, delicate look that technique gives. The two funky birds are busy holding up a banner of shiny. The tear drop reminds me a bit of the shape of strawberries.

Evidence used: stripes, banners, triangles, texture paste, something transparent.

Seriously Out of This World

Loved this week's case file at CSI! Such fun colors and the green just reminded me of garden fresh salad ingredients. I recently went out to my mom's and I had this whole huge garden to to go and harvest from. I ate a lot of salads whilst there. Dinner salads, side salads, as well as having yumminess like cilantro to put on other meals. Such goodness.

I used the Heart Burst from The Cut Shoppe. The photo covers the heart, but I loved the rays and they just fit perfectly. The paper I found just made me so happy. Perfect pattern for rays! I also used Over The Moon from file by the same name, LOVE came from Round Up, and SERIOUSLY came from Tag, You're It. Be sure to play along this month because Ashley is giving a $20 gift certificate to the store to one player!

Evidence used: arrows, stripes, signs, stars, metal, hang something

You Are Here

I can't believe it's July already. Time for a new month of fun cases at CSI. This month we are teaming up with Ashley over at The Cut Shoppe. I love Ashley's designs. They are so fun and whimsical and love using them. She is generously giving a $20 gift certificate for one of this month's player, so be sure to join along.

I recently flew out to mom's, a bit last minute, following the Memorial Day holiday. This meant my route was a little all over the place and 16 hours later, I arrived. I flew through 5 airports, 4 flights, on 3 different airlines. It was a bit nuts. The day included a power outage in Portland and a lightning storm and broken plane in Dallas. Oh, and it was my birthday.

For this layout, I started off with some teal paint on white watercolor paper, then added some background stamping with a dated library card stamp. Next I cut out and colored Hip2BSquare from The Cut Shoppe for my matte. I used the grid design from the sketch, but added another row. The tag from the Pack Your Bags filled in the last spot. For my title, I cut apart the phrase from Travelin' On, putting them at the top and bottom of the grid. Little pieces from Happy Camper, Target Practice and Round Up finished off the cut files. I cut some banners out and added the official designation for each of the airports I visited and to add the 3 points of my journaling. The stats, you could say. The whole thing was finished off with a sprinkling of some stars.

Evidence used: solid background, stars, dry embossing.

Testimony is on little tags. "5 airports, 4 flights, on 3 airlines"
