Rainy Background Using Tim Holtz Layering Stencil

Spring is almost here! The rains are making ready to receive a bounty of colorful flowers. I recently picked up the newest Tim Holtz layering stencils and the Dashes stencil looked like falling rain. I am going to show you how to make a rainy day background today.

I used the Tim Holtz Flower Garden for this card, as well as Blueprint Sketch and Mermaid Lagoon Oxides.

Fill the stitch die cut base with flower assortment of choice, masking off flowers as you create a bunch.

With the masks still in place, lay down first color of Oxides. I used Blueprint Sketch first. The Misti magnets come in handy to hold my stencil in place on top of my magnetic board.

Offset the stencil slightly, then add the second color, Mermaid Lagoon in this case.

I found the lines to be rather harsh, so I decided to spritz with water. It gave it that awesome watery look, that one would expect to find on a rainy day.

Dry immediately so it doesn't run too much, losing the lines.

Remove masks and color/paint in your favorite way. I used Gansai Tambi paints. I love the vibrancy and the color pop.

I added clear sequins to mimic water drops, added some twine and a sentiment. This sentiment came from Unity Stamp Co and I thought fit for someone going through a hard time.

AUS Mini Using Flourish By Crate Paper

Have you seen Flourish, by Crate Paper yet? It's a Scrapbook.com exclusive and it is beautiful!

I decided the collection would make an excellent mini album for my photos of my trip to Australia. I used a Paige Evans cut file and my Silhouette machine. This album comes in five sections, glued back to back, with the option of making a little pocket when binding. I used each section for a different activity on our trip. I was surprised at how many phots I could get in; I printed off an entire 8.5x11 sheet of photo paper's worth for each section.

I use the little binder clip to hold the album open, after it's fanned out. Here is a peek at the inside.

Be sure to pick up this gorgeous collection for your special project!

Wanna Have Girl Time

It's a new month of challenges at CSI and this one is a super fun one. I love the bright colors and the prompt to remember the good times of summer. In fact, I went all old school on this case, using all the prompts.

I used the Donna Downey poppy stamps from Unity Stamp Co as my background, painting them with Gansai Tambi watercolors. I live the vividness of these paints and they went well with the bright theme.  I finished off the bright pops by splattering Twisted Citron on the background and adding bright enamel dots and washi. The poppies have clear beads in the centers to give some added texture.

Evidence used: solid white background, mixed media, flowers, and beads

Testimony is remembering a summer activity.

How will you solve this case?

February Bullet Journal Pages

My February and new program bullet journal pages, plus some thoughts on bullet journaling thus far.

I had never heard of bullet journaling until Unity Stamp Co did a FB Live, with a new release of a new line of BuJu stamps. I loved the images and loved what the artist did with them, so I thought I'd like to find something meaningful, to me, to create. I put it on simmer and went about my business. A couple of weeks go by and the hubs told me I REALLY needed to make a workout plan. Having been injured for the entire year and not being able to do what I had been doing left me feeling discouraged, depressed, and defeated. I figured this journal might actually work to help me succeed.

First of all, I really like the hands on approach. I have three ways to check in online, with my workouts, but there's something about seeing it all laid out, on paper that clicks with me. There's no repercussion to not posting, but a blank box will sit there and stare at you...
Secondly, the time and effort I've invested into creating the check system encourages me to complete the tasks. Bits of my heart and dreams are on these pages, so let's get to it!
Lastly, I've really just enjoyed making the art! I'm learning to letter and do simple line drawings.

I'm enjoying my journal very much. If you wish to start one, do some research and find what's meaningful for you. What do you want to keep track of? Spend your time there. Hope this is helpful for any of you wondering about starting a journal.
